Murano

Murano is the island of glass.

This becomes apparent the minute you step off the ferry, with shops displaying all manner of things glass, from miniature ants through to spectacular street sculptures. Murano is a quiet version of Venice, small canals and a whole lot less people. We sauntered along several canals poking our noses in and out of the shops, oohing and ahhing. There were some spectacular pieces such as the glass bamboo pole clusters, 3 metres tall in various colours, mirrors by Dira's favorite Ravenna artist Dusciana Bravura and some colored glass containers so fine you couldn't even imagine taking them back to Venice let alone Australia!

Dira found the piece de resistance in the shape of a large black duck, with a green millifiore body, thinking that's what a girl turning 50 should have. While I was prepared to max out the card, the price of 7000 euros way exceeded that! It was beautiful and 1 of a kind but...we left it there for another time.

The search continued and then we saw it....but you will have to wait until the 7th for the revelation!

We had our first Italian fish risotto which was absolutely scrumptious. Eating for Australia again!
